County Board Ends Protective Hunt for Lynx After No New Attacks Reported; Another Hunt Authorized in Norrtälje Area

by time news

The county board decided on the protective hunt after a lynx repeatedly attacked sheep in an area around Väddö and on the mainland directly adjacent to Väddö, where the density of sheep herds is very high. The protective hunt has now ceased to apply without a lynx being able to be killed. The County Administrative Board will not extend the decision at the moment because, after the decision date, there have been no new attacks in the area.

Last week, the County Administrative Board decided on another protective hunt just northeast of Norrtälje after mouflon sheep in enclosures were attacked by lynx on at least four occasions. This protective hunting is permitted until April 12, 2024, but at the latest until a lynx has been killed or until something else is decided.
