A court has ordered to file a case against Aniyara activists for allegedly misrepresenting the Vanniyar community in the film Jai Bhim. The court has ordered to file a case against Surya, Jyothika and director Gnanavel, the hero and producer of the film. The action was taken on a complaint filed by Rudra Vanniyar Sena, a sub-organization of the Pattali Makkal Kakshi party.

During the release of the film, the Vanniyar community demanded that Jai Bhim be banned and that offensive scenes be removed from the film. They demanded Rs 5 crore in compensation and an unconditional apology from the Jai Bhim team. In November 2021, the Vanniyar community approached the Saidapet court with a complaint.

A scene and a name in Jai Bhim led to the controversy. The brutal policeman in the film is not really a member of the Vanniyar community. However, members of the Vanniyar community allege that there was an attempt to portray it in such a way. At the same time, director TJ Gnanavell said that he did not try to hurt any community through the film.

‘Jai Bhim’ is about the struggle for justice of the grassroots, which has won the admiration of both the audience and the critics alike. Jai Bhim was released on Amazon Prime in November last year. The film is based on the custodial death of a young man belonging to a dark caste in 1993 and the legal battle waged by Adv. Chandra to prove it. The film was produced by Surya’s banner To D Entertainments.
