Courtney Stodden and Jared Safier Reflect on Year One of Marriage, Overcoming Early Turbulence
Meta Description: Reality TV star Courtney Stodden opens up about the challenges and triumphs of her first year of marriage to movie producer Jared Safier, detailing a rocky start and ongoing commitment to growth.
Courtney Stodden and Jared Safier are celebrating one year of marriage, and the reality TV star recently shared an update on their relationship, acknowledging a difficult beginning but expressing overall happiness. Stodden described her current state as “really happy,” adding that “everything is going very well” in an interview with Daily Mail.
The couple’s journey hasn’t been without its hurdles. Stodden, previously known for her highly publicized marriage to actor Doug Hutchison when she was 16 and he was 51, revealed that their honeymoon in Palm Springs in December 2024 was marked by a significant fight on their wedding night. She confessed, “Here’s the raw unfiltered truth: I almost ran away. On the night I got married, Jared and I were both emotional, overwhelmed, and far too drunk to be making decisions with clear hearts.”
According to Stodden’s account shared on Instagram, a simple misunderstanding quickly escalated. “A misunderstanding turned into a fight, outside voices added fuel, and everything spiraled faster than either of us meant it to,” she explained. Safier subsequently took time alone to process the situation, leaving Stodden to spend their honeymoon night alone.
The experience triggered painful memories for Stodden, evoking the fear and abandonment she felt during her first marriage. “And so I spent our honeymoon night alone in the bridal suite, wrapped in silence that brought back every old wound from being married at sixteen. The fear. The abandonment. The panic that history was repeating itself,” she wrote.
Despite the initial turmoil, Stodden emphasized their commitment to working through their issues. “And I’m grateful we came back with honesty, and a willingness to rebuild. Because I love him. And I know he loves me too,” she stated. The couple recognizes they entered the marriage with pre-existing emotional baggage. “We walked into marriage carrying childhood scars, complicated family dynamics, and expectations neither of us knew how to hold. We have been working on rebuilding; rebuilding safety, rebuilding connection… all while learning who we are as husband and wife.”
Stodden highlighted the ongoing effort required to nurture their relationship. “We are learning to communicate. Learning to love better. We are learning to choose each other even when it hurts. And we are still learning… A LOT! Maybe love isn’t perfect, but honest.” She concluded with a hopeful outlook: “Here’s to surviving year one. Here’s to staying when it would’ve been easier to run… and a love that we both deserve.”
Safier echoed Stodden’s sentiments, expressing his deep affection for his wife. “I met the most intelligent, fierce, and obviously beautiful woman in the world a few years ago and I married her 1 year ago,” he said. He acknowledged the challenges they’ve faced, including past relationships, trauma, and intense media scrutiny. “It hasn’t been easy for either of us with all the past relationships and trauma and media coverage. We did movies, TV shows, interviews, podcasts, photo shoots, media junkets and everything you could imagine stepping into a relationship like ours.”
Safier also addressed the negativity they’ve encountered. “Lots of haters hoped we failed (There are literally groups on the internet dedicated to the cause). Regardless through all the ups and downs we made it to 1 year.” He shared a touching anecdote about their first meeting, recalling Stodden’s playful warning, “don’t fall in love with me,” at a Starbucks. “You mind tricked me that day. ‘Why would I ever do that? Who is this girl?’ Well. I did fall in love. I couldn’t get you out of my mind.” He expressed his love for their growing family, including their pets Cartier, Harry Winston, and Onyx, and looked forward to the future. “I love you. I love our family we have created with Cartier, Harry Winston and Onyx. I cant wait for what else life brings us in the future! I love you! Happy Anniversary!”
This update comes after Stodden was seen visiting a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, following a septoplasty procedure and minor nose revision earlier this year. She reported to Daily Mail that her nose is “healing nicely.” The 31-year-old was photographed wearing a black tank top, leggings, and heels, accessorized with gold jewelry and bright red nails. Stodden shared that the procedure improved her breathing and overall health. “I recently underwent a septoplasty procedure to correct ongoing breathing issues I’ve struggled with for years,” she explained. “While I was in surgery, I also opted for a very minor revision to the outside of my nose. This was not a dramatic cosmetic change, but more of a small refinement while addressing my health concerns. I’m feeling so much better already and grateful to finally be breathing easier.” Stodden’s film, Confessions Of A Child Bride, was released this fall.
Stodden first gained public attention for her marriage to Green Mile actor Doug Hutchison in 2011, when she was just 16 years old.
