Courtois suffers another serious injury and could miss Euro Cup

by time news

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered another serious injury and will remain sidelined. This Tuesday (19), the Spanish club announced that the player tore the internal meniscus in his right knee during training.

This is the second serious injury the Belgian has suffered in 2023/24. Still in the pre-season, Courtois tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and underwent surgery. He even returned to training after seven months away from the field, but was absent again even before his debut.

Courtois arrived at Real Madrid in 2018 and gradually became one of the team’s pillars. The goalkeeper was one of the team’s highlights in the 2021/22 Champions League title campaign, being named the best player in the final, in the 1-0 against Liverpool.

In the absence of the Belgian goalkeeper, Lunin and Kepa have been taking turns in the Spanish club’s starting position. So far, it is not known whether Courtois will be able to recover in time for the European Championship, which starts on June 14th in Germany.
