Covid vaccines e third dose, new indications arrive. This was announced by the Director General of Prevention of the Ministry of Health, Gianni Rezza, answering a question during the press conference on the analysis of the data of the Covid Monitoring of the control room.
“The orientation we held in Italy was to offer” the booster dose of the anti Covid vaccine “to the over 80s, RSA guests and then to health workers starting from the over 60s, who are more exposed to risk. Of course it is important ensure this possibility for all healthcare professionals to protect themselves but also to protect any fragile patients with whom they may come into contact. “It is not thought for the moment – said Rezza – to a generalized, universal appeal, to be made on the whole population, also because many young people were vaccinated very recently and certainly do not need it “.
As for the fact that the EMA said it was in favor of the third dose for the entire population over 18, Rezza specified that “favorable” means “that there is the possibility of vaccinating with a booster booster”.
The Director General of Prevention of the Ministry of Health then explained that “this week’s” epidemiological trend “is not very different from that of last week: there is still a trend towards a slight improvement, the Rt is below 1 and stable. As far as the incidence is concerned, there is still a very slight decline. There is a decongestion of places in the medical and intensive care area. These indicators, taken all together, show us a pretty good trend. Part of the success we are having right now in controlling the outbreak is due to vaccines and precautionary measures such as social distancing, indoor masks and the Green pass.” he highlighted.
Rezza further explained that for people vaccinated against Covid in other countries with vaccines not recognized in Europe, “in particular we talk about Sputnik and Sinovac”, there are “two hypotheses under study: one may also be the one suggested by the Higher Council of Health (Css): carry out an additional additional dose with an RNA vaccine in people previously vaccinated “abroad” with vaccines not recognized by the European Medicines Agency Ema, who are or not on the list of the World Health Organization “.
