Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) advisor Haider Akbar Khan Rono (82) passed away. He breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital on Friday (May 10) at 2:05 am.

CPB general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince confirmed the matter to the media and said that Haider Akbar Khan Rono may be buried tomorrow at Banani cemetery. However, the leaders will take the final decision in this regard after sitting with the family members.

It is known that Hyder Akbar Khan Rono was admitted to the hospital on the evening of May 6 with acute respiratory disease (type-2 respiratory failure). Later, as his condition deteriorated, he was placed in the hospital’s High Dependency Unit (HDU) and was being given oxygen by a special system. He died while undergoing treatment there.

Hyder Akbar Khan Rono was born on 31 August 1942 in Calcutta, undivided India. His ancestral home is Barashula village of Narail.

Hyder Akbar Khan Rono, one of the organizers and leaders of the great liberation war, is the author of several books. This Marxist theorist was the general secretary of the East Pakistan Students Union. Although he was with Bangladesh Workers Party for a long time, he left the party and joined CPB in 2010 due to differences of opinion. In 2012, he was made a presidium member of the party. He then became an advisor to the CPB.
