A more than three meters high refugee doll called Little Amal was received by a large crowd in London at St. Paul’s Cathedral. “St. Paul’s Cathedral is known around the world and our doors are big enough to welcome you,” said Dean David Ison on Saturday.

Little Amal has covered around 8,000 kilometers

Little Amal had arrived in England this week after traveling around 8,000 kilometers through Europe. She represents a nine-year-old Syrian refugee girl and has been traveling across Europe for several months. Her journey is supposed to end in the English city of Manchester.

The organizers of the project want to use the doll, which is held upright by three people during their missions, to draw attention to the situation of unaccompanied minor refugees. The journey had started in the summer from the Turkish-Syrian border.

“London is the most diverse city in the history of the world. There is room for everyone here,” said Dean Ison. The gesture stands in contrast to anti-migration statements from the conservative British government, which wants to severely limit immigration from abroad after Brexit.
