Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the two winningest teams in Indian Premier League history. In the 15 editions played so far, MI have won the tournament five times, while CSK have been crowned champions four times. But in the last IPL season, both the teams managed to win only four of their 14 league matches. In this case, Mumbai and Chennai teams are preparing to take back the blow they got last season. Also, they are looking to buy some top players in the upcoming mini-auction to fill the holes in the squad.
1. Sam Curran
Sam Curran has done well in T20 matches. He played 143 matches and scored 1731 runs at a strike rate of 135.65. Also, he has taken 146 wickets at an economy rate of 8.46. In the IPL, he has amassed 337 runs at a strike rate of 149.78 and has taken 32 wickets. His contribution to the 2022 T20 World Cup is huge. He has taken ten wickets in four games at an economy rate of 6.40. The 24-year-old played for the CSK franchise in the 2020 and 2021 seasons and became an integral part of the Dhoni-led squad. On the other hand, Mumbai are interested in taking Sam Karana into the squad.

2. Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes is one of the best all-rounders in world cricket. Has excellent bowling ability. He has played 155 T20 matches and scored 2956 runs at a strike rate of 133.99. In bowling, he has taken 92 wickets at an economy rate of 8.42. Stokes first entered the IPL auction in 2017 when Rising Pune Supergiants picked him up for a whopping Rs 14.5 crore. MI and CSK are likely to be the frontrunners as he is expected to feature in the upcoming mini-auction. Apart from Shivam Dubey, Chennai lack a seam-bowling all-rounder who can bat in the middle order. High quality players like Stokes will add a lot to the team.
3. Kane Richardson
Kane Richardson is a legend in T20. He played 154 matches and took 200 wickets at an economy rate of 8.05. He has played 35 matches for Australia in the T20 format and has taken 44 wickets at an economy rate of 8.33.
Chennai Super Kings bagged Pretorius and Chris Jordan in the 2022 mega auction, but they leaked runs at economies of 10.00 and 10.52 respectively. Mumbai Indians had a similar story. Kane Richardson has mastered bowling in slack overs. Due to this, teams from Chennai and Mumbai are competing to bid for him in the upcoming auction.
4. Cameron Greene
Cameron Greene is famous in the international arena for his all-round game. He has amassed 270 runs in 12 ODIs at a strike rate of 92.15 and has taken 11 wickets at an economy rate of 4.98. He has scored 139 runs in eight T20Is at an impressive strike rate of 173.75. Usually a lower middle-order batsman in Tests and ODIs, Green has also bowled perfectly in Australia’s middle overs. Hardik Pandya’s void could not be filled in the Mumbai team. Thus, they can include the Australian all-rounder in the squad. Chennai, on the other hand, have some seam-bowling all-round options in the likes of Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Pretorius, but may try to incorporate Green.
5. Vidvat Kaverapavitvat
Vidwat Kaverapaviwat is one of the hottest pacers in Karnataka cricket and has proven himself to be a real wicket-taker in domestic T20 matches. In Maharaja T20 Trophy 2022, while playing for Gulbarga Mystics, he took 17 wickets in 13 matches. Kawerappa played eight matches for Karnataka and took 18 wickets at an economy rate of 6.36. This included a sensational five-wicket haul against Jammu & Kashmir. In the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, bowling was the main reason why both Mumbai and Chennai failed to beat their opponents.
