The Tata Sumo has been given a very rugged look. You can see the complete details about this Tata Sumo car, which is said to run with a 4×4 drive system, in this news.

Tata Sumo is one of the iconic cars of the Indian automobile market. Especially the first generation model of Sumo which was introduced in 1994 received a great response. In fact, most of the very few Sumo cars currently available in India are first-generation models.

Sumo cars are built with 4×2 drive system. The 4×4 version of the Sumo was produced for military use only and supplied to the Indian Army. However, not so many Sumo 4×4 cars are in use in the army now. Many Sumo 4x4s have been sidelined due to their obsolescence. One of the very few Sumo 4x4s in use that has been customized for such a rugged look.

This Sumo 4×4 vehicle was built for Parikshit Singh Deora, who runs a tour company called Gadwat Safari Camp in Rajasthan. The car has ditched the conventional bumpers at the front & rear and replaced them with off-road bumpers. It is not known if these bumpers were made for this purpose or if these bumpers were removed from another vehicle and fitted.

The Sumo’s 15-inch wheels are fitted with oversized 33/12.5 R15-inch tires. Correspondingly the arches provided over the wheel have been enlarged. These modification changes give this Sumo car a very rugged look. Also, the height of the car has also increased due to the increased size of the tires. This makes this Sumo vehicle more classy than other Sumo cars.

In line with these changes, the Sumo has been fitted with larger wing mirrors that are fitted on Tata trucks. As far as other modification changes go, the snorkel has been brought back into use. New features include a 14-litre Tropicool refrigerator, 5-amp power output socket with 0.5 kv.amp inverter and rock slider.

The headlights around the car have been changed to LED. Even inside the cabin of the car, LED lights can be seen. Inside, we can see leather seats, cup holders, center console and navigator lamp. It is said that the Sumo car seen in these films can get a mileage of 9-10 kmpl. The Sumo is powered by a 2.0-litre in-direct turbocharged, intercooled diesel engine.

DriveSpark’s Comment: Getting a Tata Sumo 4×4 is a rarity. Available only if purchased through auction on behalf of the Indian Army. Moreover, in these days you will not see a Sumo 4×4 even on auction. In this current climate, one would be lucky indeed to own a Sumo 4×4 in such rugged form. The total cost of this modification is not known.
