At 27 years old, Daniela Melchior has already taken several steps abroad and it was about her career that she spoke with VÃtor Gonçalves on ‘Grande Interview’, on RTP3.
Asked if she dreamed that she would be at this level today, the actress revealed at the beginning that there was a fortune teller who predicted work across borders.
“I’m going to start with a confession. My mother is a very spiritual person and a few years ago, after I did my first soap opera, she used to consult fortune tellers and took me to one for the first time – I was very curious. And the lady started saying that she saw me working abroad with international actors and everything. I didn’t believe anything and nowadays I’m even more curious, because she actually predicted something”, she confided.
When talking about the international experience, he also recalled that the steps abroad “was something that happened and not something I looked for”.
At the time, she remembers, she was working on a soap opera when she was contacted by a manager who saw the trailer for the film ‘Parque Mayer’, “all in Portuguese”.
“He didn’t understand anything, but he was very intrigued by my performance and sent an email to my agent here in Portugal, saying that he would really like to send me auditions remotely (via video)”, he said.
After holding a meeting via video call, “because they wanted to find out if the person really existed”, the manager committed to sending him the auditions. And it was the third time for good, when he managed to get the role for ‘Suicide Squad’.
Meanwhile, he got another role in the film ‘Fast X’ and, more recently, in ‘Road House’. Regarding the preparation for this last job, she highlighted that the preparation was “brief”.
“I was still filming ‘Fast and Furious’ when the whole process of being hired for this ‘Road House’ happened. And then it was, practically, coming back from London, unpacking and packing to go to the Dominican Republic”, he explained, noting that he then lived in the country for four months.
When talking about what it was like working with Jake Gyllenhaal, he highlighted that the actor is “very calm and always speaks very quietly”. “But he is very deep as a person and thinks a lot about everything he is doing, why he is doing it…”, he added.
The moment he spoke to Kelly Clarkson, on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’, was also a topic of conversation, because he brought the presenter some custard tarts. But it wasn’t the only time she took the typical Portuguese sweet. “When I went to film ‘Suicide Squad’, I took a total of 90 custard tarts on the trolley,” she shared.
