Deadlier than Corona; Stay away! Today is …World Mental Health Day| Dinamalar

‘Let’s protect our mental health; World Mental Health Day is being observed on October 10 with the slogan ‘Let’s live civilly’. Since 1992, international countries have come together to create awareness and discussion about mental health among the people and have been doing social activities.

Physical health and mental health are like two rails. Just like when one of the rails is damaged, we cannot run the train only on the other rail… so is our life. If the mental health is affected, no matter how strong the physical health is, the train of life will be derailed.

We should treat both physical health and mental health, which are the foundation of a healthy life, like two eyes. The corona virus that has turned the world upside down and forced us all into home isolation has created an environment of uncertainty, disrupting the social and economic environment.

The global prevalence of mental health problems rose from one in eight before 2019 to one in seven after the pandemic. During the first year of the epidemic, 25 percent of the population suffered from anxiety, depression, etc. Little by little, Indian society has recovered from that impact and is now returning to its old normal with renewed confidence.

Even worse

While studies show that the mental health effects of individuals have increased after Corona, another study shows that families and social structures are being destroyed by people who are addicted to advanced technologies (technology addiction).

Even if the members of a family, husband, wife and children live in the same house or in the same room, the heart-to-heart conversations between them are disappearing. They sit alone and immerse themselves in laptops, tablets, phones, online games and social media.

Hands clutching expensive phones have abandoned precious relationships. Conversations within the family, sharing of love, discussions that improve relationships, and ways of sharing humor are also decreasing.

Many people get stuck in the technical magic web of ‘living together but apart’ and can’t get out of it. Due to this, the sense of unity among family members is decreasing and allergies are increasing.

One’s problems are not understood by the other; Or, don’t care. As a result, problems between husband and wife, resentment between parents and children, children being left alone etc. occur. Neglected children by warring parents are led astray by bad people who pretend to be loving and comfort them.

‘Technology Addiction’ is spreading in the society as a new type of deadly social disease even more than the corona virus. Parents should spend time with their children at other times for work or emergencies. Adolescents should have open hearted conversations with friends and relatives. Respect human feelings. To come out of the maze; This is the recipe for a healthy community. A commitment we must make on World Mental Health Day.
