Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was hospitalized with a serious neck injury following a violent collision during Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings at Ford Field, according to multiple reports. The Detroit Lions secured a 19-15 victory, marking the first time in 2026 that the Vikings have suffered a loss and bringing the Lions’ win total to five for the season.
Jack Campbell is being transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for a neck injury.
Jack Campbell Hospitalized After Collision
The incident unfolded when Minnesota tight end T.J. Hockenson caught a pass in the middle of the field and was brought down by Detroit Lions’ defenders, including Campbell. Arriving at the contact while falling to his knees, Campbell appeared to make contact with his facemask rather than his shoulders and arms, causing his head and neck to compress into his torso upon impact. The 26-year-old linebacker lay motionless on the turf, prompting medical personnel and trainers from both teams to rush to his side. Players from both squads took a knee, watched, and prayed during a tense stoppage that lasted several minutes while medical staff completed their regimen for immobilizing and securing Campbell to a backboard and stretcher.
Injuries Mount For Detroit Roster
The loss of Campbell added to a mounting injury toll for the Lions during the contest. Pass rusher DJ Wonnum and safety Brian Branch both suffered concussions during the matchup, while Jimmy Rolder also exited the game with assistance following the play that injured Campbell.

Campbell is currently in his fourth NFL season after being selected 18th overall by Detroit in the 2023 draft out of Iowa. He has started 52 of the 57 games he has played professionally, accumulating 8.5 sacks over that span. Last season, he earned All-Pro honors after starting all 17 games and recording 176 tackles and five sacks. In May of this year, Campbell signed a contract extension through the 2030 season, a four-year agreement worth $81 million that includes $51.4 million in guaranteed money. He and his wife, Megan, welcomed their son, Cooper, in July.
