Channel 9 has named Dan Anstey as Tim Davies’ replacement on the Today show, with Anstey set to present weather from Monday to Wednesday and co-host Weekend Today starting in 2027, following a period of staff upheaval on the program.
Channel 9 has confirmed Dan Anstey as the successor to Tim Davies on the Today show, with Anstey set to transition from his role as a weather presenter on Weekend Today to a position on the weekday program starting in 2027. The appointment follows a series of departures from the show this year, including Karl Stefanovic, Sarah Abo, and Danika Mason, which created a period of instability for the morning program.
Anstey to Present Weather and Co-Host on Today Show
Anstey, who currently hosts Triple M Breakfast in Brisbane, will present weather from Monday to Wednesday on the Today show and co-host Weekend Today alongside Alison Piotrowski and Lizzie Pearl. His appointment was revealed live on the show, with host Sylvia Jeffreys joking about his recent resignation from Triple M. We just heard that you resigned from Triple M about half an hour ago. So we thought, oh, he’ll do,
Jeffreys said, to which Anstey replied, They were very happy to get rid of me, so I’m your problem now!
Context of the Show’s Staff Changes
The appointment marks the end of a turbulent period for the Today show, which lost multiple key figures this year. Nine’s director of morning television, Steven Burling, praised Anstey’s familiar and much-loved face
and described him as one of the sharpest and most exciting talents out there.
Anstey, who has been a regular on the show for years, will relocate to Sydney with his family in the new year.
The show’s lineup has seen significant turnover, with only newsreader Jayne Azzopardi and entertainment editor Richard Wilkins remaining from the original team. Nine spent months searching for replacements, including Tom Steinfort and Sylvia Jeffreys for Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo.
Personal Details and Future Plans
Anstey, who is based in Brisbane, will move to Sydney with his wife and children in the new year. His children inadvertently revealed the news during a school event, when he told his daycare classmates about the family’s upcoming relocation. The move comes after Anstey stepped down from his Triple M role, which he had held for several years.
Speaking about his new role, Anstey said, I feel like a kid in a candy store who got to choose my two favourite lollies.
