Srinagar – Srinagar, which is considered a paradise by tourists, is another sight to see in Indian Railways. Railways has shared stunning pictures of the world’s tallest railway bridge under construction on river Chenab. The bridge is part of the 111 km stretch from Katra to Banihal on the Udhampur – Srinagar – Baramulla railway section.

The various images of the bridge floating among the white clouds will leave anyone wanting. A picture with the sunrise in the background has also been shared. Many people have come forward with appreciation. “It is special that this is not a construction for spending leisure time, but a construction for development purposes. It is bigger than the Eiffel Tower. This is an example of development at its peak” – commented a Twitter user.

When all phases of construction are completed, it will be 30 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The construction of the new and unique design of the bridge has started from both sides of the river. 85,000 kg structure forward from each bank. 93 parts assembled in each structure. These two structures are joined in the middle of the river by means of a bolt called a high strength function grip. The name given to this junction by engineers is Golden Joint.

The two ends of the railway bridge met in August. With the completion of the bridge, trains will whistle to Srinagar for the first time since independence. The length of the bridge is 1.3 km which is being built at a cost of Rs 1250 crore. 1,300 workers and 300 engineers participated in the construction. The bridge is 350 meters above the river Chenab. The bridge work, which started in 2004, was stopped in 2008 when the wind stopped it. The lifespan of the bridge is 120 years.
