Manchester: Manchester United defeated Liverpool in the battle of equal forces in the English Premier League. In the match held at Old Trafford, United’s home ground, the hosts won by two goals to one. This is United’s first win of the new season.

It was United’s first win under new manager Erik ten Haag. Liverpool, on the other hand, went without a win in the Premier League for the third time in a row.
Erik ten Hag brought United down after losing their first two matches and making major changes to the team. Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire were removed from the starting XI. Instead, Elanga and Raphael Varane were included in the squad. United played in a 4-2-3-1 formation. With the arrival of Varane, the team’s defense became stronger.
United took the lead through Sancho in the 16th minute of the match. Sancho, who received Elanga’s pass, overwhelmed the Liverpool defenders and easily put the ball into the net. On the strength of this goal, the team took the lead in the first half. Liverpool were unable to create any significant chances in the first half.
United brought on Anthony Martial to replace Elanga in the second half. This move paid off. In the 53rd minute, Rashford took Martial’s extended pass and slotted the ball past Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker with ease. With this, Old Trafford roared.
Liverpool strengthened their attack with two goals scored. As part of that, Mohamed Salah scored in the 81st minute. The goal was scored after a scramble inside the box. The United defense, led by Varane and Lisandro Martínez, remained rock solid as they tried to strengthen their attack later on. Ronaldo came on as a substitute in the final minutes of the match.
With this win, United moved up to 14th place from last place in the points table. The team has three points from three matches. Liverpool are 16th with two points from as many matches. The pressing game was the key to United’s success.
