Setukkarai: Thousands of devotees take a holy dip in Setukkarai sea on the occasion of Adi Amavasai. Sankalpa pujas including didithi, tarpanam and pitrukkadan were performed for the ancestors on the coast of Setukkarai.

From 3:00 am to evening, thousands of people and devotees bathed in the nearby Setupandana Jayaweera Anjaneyar Temple and offered prayers with oil lamps. Moolav Sethubandana Jayaweera Anjaneyar blessed in full adornment. They broke coconuts in the small temple near Setukarai, Agathiyar temple and performed pujas with elegance.* 11 types of abhishekam were performed at Mariyur Bhuvendiyanathar Sametha Pavalniravalliyamman temple near Sayalkudi. Alms was given from morning to evening. People offered thithi and tarpanam in the sea near the temple. In Mookaiyur too, devotees from the surrounding area danced on the beach and performed Amavasi pujas.

* Devotees in a long line had darshan of Swami at Tirupullani Adijaganathaperumal temple. In the morning, there was a special tirumanjanam and chanting of koshtip parayanam. A large number of people gave greens to the cows to satisfy their hunger. Local history has it that when Ramabran was thirsty when he was passing through this place, Agathiyar gave him thirtham.

It is customary for devotees to take a dip in the sea there and offer darpanam to their ancestors on Adi and Tai new moon days. Yesterday, on the occasion of Aadi Amavasai, a large number of devotees took a holy bath and had a darshan of Goddess Soundaranayake. At 10:00 a.m. Swami Veedhi Ula took place.
