The Israeli film “Seven Blessings”, by director Ayelet Menachemi, will not compete at the upcoming Oscars. This was learned this evening (Thursday) after the list of 15 contenders in the Best International Film category was published. Films from 88 countries were submitted to this category.
The countries that will compete for the last five places in the competition are: Armenia, Bhutan, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Spain, Tunisia, Ukraine and Great Britain.
The last time Israel competed for the prize was in 2012 with “Footnote” by director Yosef Sider. In total, Israel was nominated ten times for the Academy Award in the category of Best International (Foreign) Film.
The list of all the nominees for the Oscars will be published by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on January 23 and the ceremony itself will take place on March 10 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
