Disney Star wins India ICC media rights from 2024 to 2027

Disney Star has acquired the Indian media license of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The bidding for the ICC – India media license was held in a sealed bid process. Disney Star has bagged the ICC-India media license for the fourth time in a one-round auction.

With this, Disney-Star retains the TV and digital rights for the Indian subcontinent for global events, including men’s and women’s cricket tournaments hosted by the ICC from 2024 to 2027.

In this regard, the statement issued by the ICC said:

We are delighted to continue our partnership with Disney Star as the home of ICC Cricket for the next four years. This has provided a better result for our members and will support our ambitious growth plans.

Disney stars will play a vital role in the future of our game of cricket and engage more fans than ever before.

Cricket continues to attract more than a billion fans worldwide who follow the game passionately. I would like to thank all the bidders for their support.

This was stated by ICC President Greg Barclay in a statement.

In case of tie between bidders as per the guidelines set by ICC, only electronic auction will be conducted to determine the successful bidder.

Some leading companies – Star, Sony, Zee, Viacom had participated in the bidding for the ICC rights but Disney Star was declared the winner at the end of the first round.

A few months ago, in the IPL media rights auction, Star and Viacom acquired the TV and digital rights respectively. And, now, Disney Star has also got the media rights for ICC events.

Commenting on this, K. Madhavan, President and CEO, Disney Star said, “We are delighted to be able to continue our association with the International Cricket Council (ICC). We look forward to strengthening our partnership by growing the game of cricket in the coming years.”
