DMK MP Kanimozhi Criticizes Potential Name Change of India to Bharat

DMK MP Kanimozhi participated in a program held in Egmore, Chennai and later spoke to the media about the controversial proposal of changing India’s name to Bharat. Kanimozhi expressed her concerns and criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for considering such a move.

“They will say that it is in the Constitution. It contains both these words. They are using both the names Bharat and India on the stage. Today they are saying that they are going to change the name of India and the President of India in order to create unnecessary controversy. We are at the point where we can explore the politics behind this. We are forced to resist it. The INDIA coalition of opposition parties, in an environment that has created a fear for them, is engaged in history-changing activities,” Kanimozhi stated.

Furthermore, Kanimozhi criticized the BJP government’s habit of changing names, including renaming laws in Hindi. She argued that while some may perceive name changes as trivial, it is essential to consider the sentiments of the Indian people.

“They have started changing history, changing names, even laws have been renamed in Hindi. Changing names like this may seem trivial to those who give all programs unfamiliar names. They who claim to have hurt their feelings on so many issues should understand that they should not hurt Indians by changing their names like this,” she added.

In another related news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted in Tamil regarding the upcoming G20 summit. The main session of the summit will take place in Delhi on September 9 and 10. A dinner has been scheduled for September 9 at 8 pm, and an invitation from the President’s House has been sent for this event. However, instead of mentioning Rashtrapati Bhavan, the invitation identifies the venue as the “President of India.”

This has sparked nationwide condemnation, with opposition parties, including the Congress and DMK, expressing their strong objections. Moreover, rumors about the BJP government planning to present a bill to change India’s name to the Republic of India in a special session of Parliament have intensified the controversy surrounding the potential name change.

As of now, the proposal to change India’s name to Bharat is met with widespread criticism and opposition from various quarters. The concerns raised by DMK MP Kanimozhi highlight the apprehensions surrounding such a change and the potential impact it may have on the country’s history, identity, and national sentiment.
