Kozhikode: Police have registered a case against the locals who rescued a young woman from the bite of a pet dog at Ambayathottil. The action was based on a complaint by Roshan, the owner of the dogs. The locals lodged a complaint with the Thamarassery DySP demanding strong action against Roshan.

Fauzia (38), who was attacked by two dogs at the same time, is still recovering from the shock. Govt. She is being treated at a medical college hospital and is in a critical condition.

Fouzia was standing in front of the madrassa at around 8am on Sunday morning to pick up her only 7-year-old son, Rizwan, who was studying at the madrassa in Ambayam. Fauzia was attacked by dogs released by Roshan of Veluppur Estate in Thamarassery.

When the dog barked, Fauzia first tried to knock him down with an umbrella in his hand. Then he stepped aside but jumped towards Fauzia and surrendered. Immediately a second dog attacked. Bitten in several places below the left knee. Fatal bite to the right ear. They were injured in the fall and could not even lie down on their own.

Compensation to be paid: Human Rights Commission

K. Baijunath, a judicial member of the State Human Rights Commission, demanded that Fauzia, who was seriously injured in a dog bite, be compensated by the dog owner and that he be given proper treatment. The order was issued by the Collector. The action taken must be notified within 15 days. The action was taken on a complaint filed by human rights activist Noushad Thekkayil.


He was bitten a month ago

Prabhakaran, a native of Ambayathode, was bitten and fatally injured by the same dogs from the Ambayathode estate for a month. Prabhakaran, who was undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital, was recently discharged from the hospital. Roshan goes to the estate with Rottweiler dogs. Locals say the dog is dangerous but can be carried and released without proper safety measures.

When Prabhakaran was bitten, the locals told the owner not to let the dogs go like this. The incident was reported to the police and others. Yet no action was taken and 4 weeks later an even more serious form of violence was committed against a woman.

The locals are protesting against this. Fauzia’s husband is ill. Relatives and others have demanded that adequate compensation be provided to victims of gang violence and that the owner be exemplary punished.
