Since 2021, the establishment has welcomed first-year nursing apprentices. Only a few establishments allow work-study at this stage of training. In other IFSIs, it always begins in the second year, when the student has obtained their nursing assistant diploma. Loane, 20, therefore began her apprenticeship at the Bordeaux-Rive Droite polyclinic in September 2022.

In addition to the theoretical courses and internships planned in the program of her IFSI, the young woman reserves her vacation at the polyclinic. In the first year, the student was limited to administrative tasks or accompanying stretcher bearers. This year, with her nursing assistant diploma, she can finally “practice”. “I don’t do nursing because I’m not allowed to, but I take care of the hygiene and comfort of the patients. » Loane assures him, this experience allows him to gain confidence. She can ask questions to nurses during technical care. “I am much more comfortable afterwards when I am on internship. » Loane receives 975 euros on average per month.

Since the apprenticeship reform in 2018, the system has become increasingly popular. “Our workforce has tripled in the space of four years”, specifies Véronique Leone, general director of the first CFA specialized in care professions in France, located in Marseille. Thus, between 2020 and 2024, the center went from three hundred to a thousand apprentices, all professions combined.
“It’s more interesting than McDonald’s”
“The work-study program allows you to become an integral part of a department and to get to know your colleagues”, defends Sylvie Hivert. It has one hundred and thirty nursing apprentice contracts in its structure. “One of the reasons young people are interested in apprenticeship is the salary”, says Véronique Leone. Young people are paid according to their age and their year of study in a field they know. “It’s much more financially attractive than McDonald’s”she says.
