Drake Fuels ‘Iceman’ Album Speculation with Hockey Post and 21 Savage Collaboration

Drake continues to build anticipation for his forthcoming solo album, tentatively titled Iceman, dropping carefully curated hints to fans. Recent activity, including a snowy hockey-themed Instagram post and a lyrical nod from 21 Savage, suggests the project is nearing completion, with at least one final livestream event planned before its release.

The Canadian rapper ignited speculation on Saturday, December 13, by sharing a video on Instagram of himself playing hockey on an outdoor ice rink. The rink was prominently branded with logos from October’s Very Own, Drake’s record label, courtesy of Sherwood. He captioned the post, “Ice for what,” a clear allusion to his 2018 Scorpion hit, “Nice For What.”

Fan reactions were swift and enthusiastic. Comments ranged from playful suggestions of a potential NHL career – “I’ve seen enough. Suit up, the [Toronto Maple] Leafs need you,” one user wrote – to humorous observations about the setup. “Bro, did you put a hockey rink in your backyard?!” another fan quipped, while others noted the distinctly Canadian imagery, calling it a “Canadian citizenship test.” References to hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, whom Drake previously name-dropped on his February track “NOKIA,” also flooded the comments section.

The buzz surrounding Iceman intensified further on Friday, December 12, with the release of 21 Savage’s surprise fourth studio album, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS?. Drake made a guest appearance on the track “MR RECOUP,” delivering lyrics that directly referenced his “Iceman” persona. He rapped, “Damn, Alex Moss, that’s a really big chain / Really, it’s no wonder why my neck is in pain / Damn, Iceman, your initials just changed / Mr. Recoup, that’s my other nickname.”

While a firm release date for Iceman remains unknown, Drake revealed in a conversation with Complex last month that he intends to host at least one more livestream before the album arrives. “The finale will be our best work,” he teased, promising a showcase of unreleased material. So far, three livestream broadcasts have featured tracks like “What Did I Miss?” with EVÎN, the Central Cee collaboration “Which One,” “SOMEBODY LOVES ME PT. 2,” and “DOG HOUSE” featuring Julia Wolf and Yeat.

Drake also addressed the perception of these streams, clarifying that they are far from simple undertakings. “The biggest misconception…is the assumption that they’re simple to execute,” he explained. “When you try to do something new or different, people can be overly critical before really understanding what it takes.” This suggests Drake is pushing creative boundaries with this album rollout, aiming for a unique and immersive fan experience.
