Driverless vehicles will soon hit the streets of Dubai

Dubai The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that the test run of driverless cars on city streets will be completed by the end of this year. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, has signed a joint venture agreement with RTA and the US-based cruise company for driverless vehicles.

It aims to officially launch driverless cars on Dubai’s city streets by 2023. If the project materializes, Dubai will be the first city outside the United States to operate such vehicles. RTA with Anthony Gregory, Vice President, Cruise Market Development; Chairman Mather Al Thayer called a meeting on the issue.

Driverless cars are currently being tested at various locations in Dubai. The plan is to roll out 4,000 vehicles in different parts of the city by 2030.
