The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened two new bridges at the Trade Center Roundabout in Dubai, significantly improving traffic flow and reducing commute times. The project,a key component of the larger Trade Center Roundabout Development Project, aims to alleviate congestion at one of the city’s most vital intersections.
The newly completed bridges serve traffic traveling from 2nd December Street towards Sheikh Rashid Street, and from Al Majlis Street to Al Mostaqbal Street. Each bridge features two lanes in both directions, boosting capacity to an estimated 6,000 vehicles per hour.
Accelerated Timeline & Reduced Commute Times
The bridges were opened ahead of schedule in mid-January, demonstrating the RTA’s commitment to efficient infrastructure development. The improvements are expected to dramatically reduce travel times for commuters.Previously, a journey from 2nd december Street to Majlis Street, Al Mostaqbal Street, and Zabeel Palace Street could take up to 10 minutes. Now, drivers can expect to complete the same route in just two minutes. This represents a substantial 80% reduction in travel time.
A Strategic Investment in Dubai’s Infrastructure
According to a senior official, the Trade Center Roundabout is a crucial connection point, linking Sheikh Zayed Road to five major arteries: Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Majlis Street. The entire development project, costing over 696 million dirhams, encompasses the construction of five bridges totaling 5,000 meters in length.
The project also involves transforming the existing roundabout into a surface intersection, further optimizing traffic movement. This redesign will enhance traffic flow from Sheikh Zayed Road towards 2nd December Street and from Al Mostaqbal Street towards Sheikh Zayed road south.
The RTA’s investment underscores Dubai’s ongoing commitment to developing a world-class transportation network capable of supporting the city’s continued growth and economic prosperity.
