Due to periodic shelling, open pit work in the Sotk mine was stopped. The company issued a statement about it.
“Since the evening hours of April 14, Azerbaijani armed forces have been regularly firing in the direction of the Sotk mine. The working personnel of the mine tried many times to perform their work duties, but they were prevented from doing so by the shootings from the rifle weapons of different calibers. There were no casualties, minor damage was caused to the equipment.
The situation of constant danger for the company’s employees continues for more than a month.
As a result, further work at the Sotk open pit has become impossible due to circumstances beyond the Company’s control. Thus, the Company faced the impact of circumstances of insurmountable force (force majeure).
“In order to ensure the safety of the employees, the management of GPM GOLD has decided to stop the operation of the open mine and send the staff to forced idle time,” the statement said.
