Duquesne Swimming & Diving Concludes WVU Invitational with Fourth-Place Finish

Duquesne University’s swimming and diving team completed a strong showing at the WVU Invitational in Morgantown, West Virginia, on Saturday, securing a fourth-place overall finish. The Dukes accumulated 1,137.5 points across the three-day competition.

Competitive Field at WVU Invitational

The competition proved fierce, with West Virginia claiming the top spot with an impressive 1,941 points. William & Mary followed closely behind with 1,169 points, while Georgetown secured third place with 1,257 points. Drexel rounded out the top five, totaling 1,022.5 points.

Dukes Shine with Individual Performances

Sierra Snow, a sophomore, delivered a standout performance for Duquesne, earning a gold medal in the 200-yard backstroke with a personal-best time of 1:55.79. Freshman Norah Kotnik also demonstrated her potential in the same event, achieving a season-best time of 2:01.35 in the B Final.

Duquesne showcased depth in the 200-yard breaststroke, with two swimmers reaching the A Final. Sophomore Jess Burns recorded a season-best 2:16.31 to finish fourth, and senior Sydney Severini was close behind, touching the wall at 2:17.34 for sixth place.

Season-Best Times Highlight Duquesne’s Effort

Senior Claudia Rzeznik finished seventh in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a season-best time of 2:04.83. Fellow competitors, freshman Kira Schrecongost (2:06.13) and junior Julia Sobun (2:07.66), also competed in the B Final. In distance events, senior Aislinn Mooney achieved a season-best 17:26.58 in the 1650 freestyle, closely followed by freshman Danica Wight at 17:35.14.

The Dukes also excelled in the relays, with the 400-yard freestyle relay team – comprised of sophomores Kaitlyn Connors, Ashley Freel, Emersen Snow, and freshman Lucy Backus – placing fourth out of 18 teams with a time of 3:24.77.

Looking Ahead: Toyota U.S. Open

Duquesne will resume competition in December, traveling to Austin, Texas, to participate in the Toyota U.S. Open at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center from December 4-6.
