A bitter public dispute has flared between Lucia Ďuriš Nicholsonová, a former Member of the European Parliament, and Romana Tabaková, a former deputy within the Slovakia movement. The escalating conflict, rooted in past political alliances and personal grievances, has played out publicly through social media and direct statements, revealing deep-seated animosity.
Initial Criticism and Retaliation
The current exchange began with criticism leveled by Ďuriš Nicholsonová against figures within Igor Matovič’s movement, including Tabaková. Describing Tabaková as a “dissatisfied serpent woman,” Ďuriš Nicholsonová launched a scathing attack, questioning her qualifications and relevance. According to reports, the initial criticism stemmed from Ďuriš Nicholsonová’s recent announcement of her departure from politics in 2024.
“Only the best ones get there, not tobacco quargles from the stairs whenever you are ready to mistake Iskander with Wilson,” Ďuriš Nicholsonová reportedly stated, a remark widely interpreted as a disparaging assessment of Tabaková’s capabilities.
Tabaková swiftly responded, dismissing the attacks as having no impact on her self-confidence and even suggesting they were beneficial. “Please refer to this ugly unsympathetic woman that her disgusting attacks on my address are not touching me at all. On the contrary, they are lifting me even more self-confidence,” Tabaková declared. She further escalated the conflict with a direct comparison, asserting, “I am younger, more beautiful, more successful, more sensible and clearly more pleasant than this dissatisfied snake woman.”
A History of Conflict
This is not an isolated incident. Tabaková previously criticized Ďuriš Nicholsonová following the announcement of her exit from politics, labeling her a “destructive and insidious politician” who had allegedly benefited from a high salary without demonstrable legislative achievements.
Ďuriš Nicholsonová, in her initial outburst, also drew a contrast between the political arena and the performing arts, stating, “Dear President of Slovakia, Dear Igor, I was at Cirque du Soleil yesterday. This is a different genre than Matovic’s circus.” This statement extended her criticism to include other political figures such as Marek Krajči, Štefan Kuff, and Richard Vašek.
A Personal and Political Divide
Tabaková concluded her response with a pointed remark, expressing relief at Ďuriš Nicholsonová’s impending departure from the political landscape. “Even for such people, Jesus died on the cross. Peace and love. Lucia Ďuriš Nicholson, I am pleased that you have disappeared from politics. It is easier to breathe there,” she stated.
The exchange underscores a significant personal and political divide between the two women, highlighting the often-contentious nature of Slovakian politics and the intensity of rivalries within its political movements. The ongoing feud suggests a lasting rift, with little indication of reconciliation on the horizon.
