The Election Commission (EC) has said that voting will be done through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the general election of Upazila Parishad on May 8.

A special circular in this regard signed by Deputy Secretary of Election Management-2 (Department) Atiyar Rahman has been issued by the Election Commission Secretariat recently.

According to the circular, arrangements have been made to send the necessary number of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with customization to the Returning Officers for polling and training in the centers for the upcoming May 8 polls. In this case, there should be extensive publicity among candidates and voters about the procedure of using EVM.

It further said that since the use of EVMs is a technical matter, all contesting candidates should make arrangements to promote its use, effectiveness and success among their election agents, polling agents and voters. Arrangements have also been made to send required number of copies of a manual on EVM usage for the convenience of Polling Officers i.e. Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers and Polling Officers.
