Most of Girona’s economists77.97%, considers that the increase in the Euribor will lead to the impoverishment of many Girona households and the increase in requests for a second chanceaccording to the Fall 2023 Economic Situation Survey, presented this Thursday by College of Economists of Catalonia (CEC). In this regard, only 11.86% do not believe that this will be the case, while 10.17% do not express an opinion on this matter.

The majority of Catalan economists consider that the measures adopted by the Spanish government to combat inflation should be reviewed in the face of 2024. 62.96% consider that the anti-crisis plan should be reconsidered, while 25.56 % believe it should remain the same and 8.15% are inclined to delete it.

As usual, the CEC Survey provides a general assessment of the economic situation from the point of view of its members. In this sense, the outlook has deteriorated in relation to the previous survey carried out between May and June. 35.37% of economists consider that the Catalan economy is better now than a year ago, while 24.63% think it is worse. Last spring, 44.6% said that the Catalan economy was better then.

On the other hand, the Economist Confidence Index – which includes the perception of the CEC community regarding the current economic context – stands at 5.38 in the autumn for the Catalan economy, slightly higher than 5, 36 in the spring, and in 5.24 for the Spanish economy, above 5.17 in the spring. The forecast is that the index for the Catalan economy will drop slightly by the end of the year to 5.34, and that the corresponding level for the Spanish economy will fall to 5.18.

The survey also reflects that the five main questions about the economy of Catalonia that most concern economists are the same as those in the spring survey, but with less intensity. inflation and production costs occupy the first position with 44.26%, well below the 64.2% of the spring. Even so, 62.96% of all respondents believe that the measures to combat inflation adopted in 2023 should be reviewed for the new year. Regarding the negative impact that the current increase in prices and costs can have for the Catalan economy, 19.1% are very worried. This percentage, however, is well below the 38.4% of the survey a year ago.

The fiscal deficit with the State is the second concern of the CEC community with 43.7% (44.9% in spring), followed by infrastructure and communications with 32.96% (34.7% in the spring), and the drought and the lack of structural reforms occupy the fourth and fifth place on the list with 28.89% each (in the spring they were 32.1% and 31.9% respectively) .
