The Environment Secretary said all this in the technical session titled ‘Implementation National Guidelines in Urban Local Government Context with Effective Participation: Learning from Practices’ on the third day of the ongoing NAP Expo at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday (April 24).

Pointing out that Bangladesh is leading the world in adaptation capacity, the secretary said, ‘Considering the reality, Bangladesh is giving importance to public health and mental health. Cities and towns need a lot of tree planting to cope with the extreme temperature conditions. The government is planting trees, people should also plant trees. The amount of soil and water reservoirs in the capital should be increased.

The Environment Secretary said, the updated NDC aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 6.73 percent by 2030. With international assistance, this reduction could be another 15.12 percent by 2030. International financial support is essential to implement the climate plan.’
