Security agents from Hialeah, in Miami-Dade County, recently arrested two elderly people who were defrauding an insurance company by pretending to have suffered traffic accidents.

These are Pedro Orlando López, 76, and Tobías Herrada, 75, who were brought before a judge for falsely claiming to the insurer GEICO that they had been injured in accidents that occurred on the road.

The first incident dates back to May 20, 2022, when Herrada was driving on 49th Street and 17th Avenue in West Hialeah and slightly collided with another vehicle.

López was a passenger in his wife’s car, and both could not think of a better idea than to take advantage of the opportunity to lie and keep the money.

A month later, on June 20, the couple filed separate claims with GEICO, requesting $10,000 each for medical expenses that, of course, never existed.

Given this, it is pertinent to mention that this is not the only case of insurance fraud that has been recorded in Hialeah.

In November of last year, Miami-Dade police arrested Eliesky Guardarrama Reyes, a 35-year-old Cuban, who pretended to have been hit by another car at a red light and, in this way, keep the insurance company’s money. .

Investigators with the Florida Insurance Fraud Bureau later determined that Guardarrama charged Kemper Insurance about $7,230 for phony treatments, money he simply pocketed for his own pleasure.

At that time, another person involved, Yordany García, was also mentioned, although the security forces did not disclose his legal status.
