Explosion at High Rise Building in Atlanta’s Atlantic Station

ATLANTA – Atlanta Police and the Fire Rescue Department rushed to a high rise building in Atlantic Station after reports of an explosion on Saturday. The incident occurred at 271 17th Street NW, where two workers were electrocuted while performing routine electrical system upgrades on the 15th floor.

According to a spokesperson from the police department, several people were injured in the incident. The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department released an update stating that the two workers suffered severe electrical shock just after 3 p.m. The electrocution sparked a small fire that was contained to the 15th floor due to the working sprinkler system.

In a statement to FOX 5, a spokesperson for Atlantic Station clarified, “There was not an explosion, as erroneously reported. Two workers were injured in the incident, both of whom are in stable condition and are still under medical care. We are continuing to monitor their conditions. We appreciate the quick response from first responders and the 271 building and Atlantic Station management teams.”

The 271 17th Street NW building houses Sen. Jon Ossoff’s Atlanta office, and his team released a statement on his behalf, saying, “Our office is grateful to Atlanta Fire and Rescue and all law enforcement who responded today. Senator Ossoff and our team are keeping the injured workers in our prayers.”
