Avinasi: ‘We should ensure that electrical appliances with star rating’ are used, says the power board.
With technology aimed at energy saving, electrical appliances are manufactured for agricultural and industrial enterprises including motors, ACs, bridges. The point is that appliances with a higher ‘star rating’ are more efficient with less electricity.
Based on the power saving efficiency of such electrical appliances, the Central Energy Department has set up an agency called ‘Bureau of Energy Efficiency’ (B.E.E.) to give ‘star rating’ to such appliances.
In this regard, to create awareness about power saving in Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANJETCO) has been appointed as the ‘Nodal Agency’ and awareness is being created among the people. In Tirupur where there are thousands of industrial establishments like many banyan companies, power looms, dye mills, etc., the power consumption and power cost is very high.
In the current environment, with the increase in the electricity tariff, there is a fear that the cost of electricity will increase manifold among the industrial companies and the general public. Hence, power saving has become inevitable.
Power Board officials said, “Big and big industrial companies have focused on energy efficiency and have installed electrical appliances with star rating. Thus, not paying much attention to them. On the contrary, we are creating awareness among the farmers who get free electricity connection from the government and use electric devices including motors.
We give permission to provide electrical connection only if electrical appliances with minimum 4 star rating are fitted. The public should also get awareness about the use of ‘star rating’ electrical appliances.
When is the training?
In Tirupur city and rural areas, it does not seem that there is much awareness among the public about this. How much electricity can be saved by using ‘star rating’ electrical appliances, how much electricity can be saved by switching off electrical appliances like AC, TV, etc. We need to create awareness about this.
