Musk Accuses Nolan of Sacrificing ‘Integrity’ over ‘Odyssey’ Casting
The filmmaker behind “Oppenheimer” is facing criticism from the tech mogul over choices made for his upcoming adaptation of HomerS epic poem.
- Director Christopher Nolan is currently in post-production on his adaptation of The Odyssey.
- Elon Musk publicly criticized Nolan’s casting decisions, claiming the director has lost “integrity.”
- The controversy centers on the casting of Lupita Nyong’o, reportedly as Helen of Troy.
- The film also features an all-star cast including matt Damon,Tom Holland, and Travis Scott.
Elon Musk has ignited a debate over ancient accuracy and artistic license, publicly accusing filmmaker Christopher Nolan of losing “integrity” due to casting choices in his upcoming film, The Odyssey. The clash began after a user on Musk’s social platform X questioned the casting of Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, who is reportedly playing Helen of Troy.
What makes Helen of troy so iconic is her legendary beauty, but does that beauty have to conform to a specific look? This question is at the heart of the current controversy.
Nolan’s adaptation of the ancient Greek epic boasts a star-studded ensemble including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Mia Goth, and Benny Safdie. The reported casting of Nyong’o, however, sparked a reaction from a user who argued that Helen of Troy was historically depicted as fair-skinned and blonde, and that deviating from this portrayal undermines the story’s premise.

beyond the casting debate, new footage released earlier this week revealed that rapper Travis Scott will make his acting debut in The Odyssey. A teaser trailer shows Scott’s character, a bard, delivering a foreboding warning about the Trojan War: “A war, a man, a trick to break the walls of Troy and burn it straight into the ground.”
The Odyssey, scheduled for release in theaters on July 17, follows Matt Damon as odysseus, king of Ithaca, on his arduous journey home after the Trojan War.
