Moira Dingle is facing a harrowing ordeal in Emmerdale, having been sent to prison on a double murder charge for the deaths of Anya and Celia Daniels – crimes she didn’t commit.
The shocking development has understandably left fans concerned about the future of actress Natalie J Robb on the ITV soap, but Robb has now confirmed she isn’t planning an exit, at least not immediately.
Speaking with The Mirror, Robb explained that leaving wasn’t on the table when she was informed of the storyline. “I think that would be the first thing they would say to you, they’d say ‘This is going to be it.’ I’ve been lucky enough just to get another contract so I think they would obviously have to say, ‘Sorry, you’re going to be leaving and this is gonna be your out.’ So when they just told me about the story I didn’t think that I would be leaving. I just didn’t really know how long I was going to be in for, and how serious the allegations were going to be at that point.”
Robb also detailed Moira’s emotional state, saying: “She just feels like she’s losing everything. She’s got Cain to worry about. In a weird way, I think that’s what’s getting her through where she’s at at the minute. She’s just so overwhelmed by the fact that it’s actually all happening. She can’t believe it.”
The actress also revealed that viewers will see Moira sporting “the odd black eye and grazed knuckles” during her imprisonment, but assured fans that she “she’ll always fight back.”
Natalie J Robb has been a fixture on Emmerdale since 2009, making her a mainstay of the series. Fans will likely be relieved to hear she’s staying put as Moira Dingle, even as the character’s future remains uncertain.
Will Moira prove her innocence? The drama isn’t easing up for the Dingle family, as Moira’s husband, Cain, is set to receive a prostate cancer diagnosis in the coming week.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available for streaming on ITVX.
