Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the country’s doctors to give more time to medical science research by avoiding the mentality of earning money only through private chambers.

He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the ‘Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship’, ‘National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship’ and special research grants to teachers, scientists, researchers and students of various universities at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday (March 11). Organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Sheikh Hasina wants to know about the private practice of doctors in the audience. He said, ‘It is true that there are doctors here, I am asking them directly.’

The Prime Minister requested them to give importance to research work from now on. He said, ‘Research activities should be given importance. Because the people of the country should be healthy, strong and talented. They should be given opportunities to develop their talents. That’s why research is essential.’

Referring to lagging behind in research, Sheikh Hasina said, we are lagging behind in one sector. And that is medical research. Doctors are engaged in earning money by practicing and are not interested in research work.

Stating that the government will give special incentive packages to those who will be involved in health research, the Prime Minister said, I will again request the doctors engaged in government service to reduce private practice and give more time to research work.

The head of government also said that the government will do whatever is necessary to encourage research work. Referring to the results of research in the agricultural sector, the Prime Minister said that the country has become self-sufficient in food production.

He said, research opens the door to development. We must give utmost importance to science and health related research.

The Prime Minister said that the government is very sincere in removing all obstacles in any kind of research. He also mentioned that investment money for research is coming from the pockets of common people of the country.

The Prime Minister said that this money of the people must be used for the welfare of the people. This should always be kept in mind.

Regarding the second nuclear power plant, the Prime Minister said, the government has built the Rooppur nuclear power plant and is trying to build another one in the southern part of the country.

He said, but the soil in the southern region is very soft. We have tested the soil on each island, but it is not possible to build such a plant there.

He said that after the completion of the current power plant, the government will build the second power plant in Rooppur.

He said, I have asked the science and technology minister to start the second one immediately after completing the first one and we have to prepare for it from now.

Science and Technology Minister Architect Yafes Osman, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Science and Technology Zahid Malek and the Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Md. Ali Hossain addressed it.
