After a long wait, it was finally published. Official call for the National Examination of Applicants for Medical Residences (ENARM) 2023. This is valuable information for all general practitioners who want to become specialists and therefore it is worth looking at the most important aspects of the document.
In the first instance, you should remember that the highest authority on this issue is the Inter-Institutional Commission for the Training of Human Resources for Health (CIFRHS). It is the one in charge of your organization and verifying that the test is carried out as stipulated.
And what is the ENARM?
It is an objective and agreed instrument for measuring knowledge in the context of the practice of general medicine, which constitutes the first stage of the process to enter the National System of Medical Residences (SNRM).
It is a mandatory exam that all general practitioners wishing to become specialists must take. It is developed through audited processes and notarial certificates in all its phases, it has a comprehensive security system that guarantees the quality, security and confidentiality of the process.
Its main objective is to select Mexican and foreign doctors and general practitioners who aspire to do a medical residency through a specialty university course.
It works to select female and male general practitioners to pursue a medical residency through a fair, transparent, legal and professional process. It does so through the application of an objective and valid instrument for measuring contextualized knowledge in clinical cases corresponding to the competencies of a general practitioner.
ENARM 2023 official call
Through the official website of the CIFRHS, the details of the ENARM 2023 call. The important dates to register for the test are the following:
- April 10 – Pre-registration online
- April 17 – Complete Registration
- June 2 – Closing of the registration portal
On this occasion, the ENARM will be applied from September 26 to 28, 2023. Regarding its cost, it remains the same as last year and will be 3,000 pesos to have the right to present the test.

Official venues of ENARM 2023
One of the biggest surprises of last year’s edition is that Mexico City is no longer the official venue for the event. This time the decision is repeated but there was also a reduction in the number of places to take the exam because there will only be three available.
- Hermosillo, Sonora.
- Leon, Guanajuato.
- Puebla, Puebla.
The ENARM call mentions that on August 4, 2023, the venue assignment for each applicant will be published. Something very important is that once the dates and shifts are defined, there will be no changes. Therefore, applicants cannot request that their exam be applied on another date or place.
Besides, The addresses of the headquarters of each federative entity will be published from September 4 to 8, 2023. This information can be consulted directly on the CIFRHS portal.
exam instructions
As of September 6, 2023, the instructions for registration, admission and application of the exam will be published. For its part, it is necessary to remember that the ENARM explores cognitive competencies contextualized in clinical cases focused on Public Health, Emergencies and Family Medicine. It also focuses on four core specialties: Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, and General Surgery.
The exam includes questions structured in reagents with a clinical case format, containing two to three questions for each clinical case; a single correct answer option in the modality of the best answer and three distractors.
Publication of results
The ENARM 2023 call does not offer a specific date with the publication of the selected pages and only mentions that during November they will be announced on the CIFRHS page.
