At the start of Day 2 at 244/3, England’s Joe Rudd teamed up with Ben Stokes, both of whom were truly a lion’s dream for the Caribbean bowlers. England were 507 for 9 in the first innings. Joe Root scored 153 off 316 balls with 14 fours and became the LP off Kimar Roche.
Ben Stokes hit 120 off 128 balls with 11 fours and 6 sixes before being bowled by Broadweight. Both of these were really dangerous for Caribbean bowlers. They smashed the ball into every corner of the field to form a long partnership of 129 runs.
Their long partnership came to an end when Rudd was outplayed by Khmer Rouge with 153 runs at 373/4. Following Root’s wicket, Johnny Barstow came on to bat, along with Stokes, both of whom scored over 400 runs for their team. The West Indies finally sighed with relief after Ulzer expelled Joseph Burstow, who sent Stokes back to Broadway.
Then, Ben Fox and Chris Vokes moved the scoreboard hand in hand. Perumal was bowled out for 33 by Fox, and his wicket was followed by the dismissal of Chris Vokes and Jack Leach, who declared England 507/9.
Later, the West Indies were left reeling from an early setback when West Indies were bowled out for just 14 by opener John Campbell and Matthew Fisher. But captain Craig Broadweight (28) and Shamra Brooks (31) finished unbeaten 71/1 tomorrow.
With 120 runs scored, Ben Stokes also entered the history books. The all-rounder has now scored 5,000 Test runs. He is now the fifth cricketer in the world to score 5,000 Test runs and take more than 100 Test wickets. Ben Stokes joins the top list of all-rounders including Gary Sobers, Ian Botham, Kapil Dev and Zack Kallis.
