(by Carlo Mandelli) (

A journey into my future memories, made of frozen feelings and euphoria waiting to explode”. This is how Ermal Meta describes his new album coming out, with the title ‘Buona Fortuna’. At the centre, a special dedication to daughter Fortuna that the singer-songwriter and his partner are expecting.
“It’s an album that I love deeply – said Ermal Meta – and it’s different from the others because it derives from a form of inspiration never experienced until now. There are twelve musical photographs that I would like to play to my daughter one day to show her what the my eyes and what my heart felt when I was waiting for her.”
On May 1st he will be on stage at the Concertone del Circo Massimo where among the dear words there will be ‘anti-fascism’. “Perhaps there is a disconnect at generation level on these issues – he said during the conference to present the Concertone which he will host together with Noemi – which becomes an obstacle, but Italy is an anti-fascist state. May 1st is no different , as always, it will be a May 1st dedicated to union, peace and all the values of peace that serve us all”, he promises.
The album will be released the next day: it will be released on May 3rd, the new work of unreleased songs tells the meaning of the word luck interpreted from the most different angles. There is the one to chase tirelessly but also the one that reaches you when you least expect it to change you in every corner of your body and mind, between your eyes and your heart.
From ‘I decide the path’, a declaration of intent in the memory of when little Ermal was told that the path of music could not be his, to ‘Till life do us part’, of getting stuck, at a certain point, of the mechanisms of love, the story tells of small and large battles, projects and expectations of an ‘athlete’ of words and music who, after having trained all his life, understands that luck, or rather Fortuna, will also determine the result of the race of life.
“There is a saying in Albanian – commented the voice of the new ‘Ironica’, ‘Certe cose’ and ‘Oro e sale’ – which says ‘ask ten people’s opinions’ and then do what you decide’. For That’s how it went for me. There comes a time when, musically speaking, you have to take stock of what you’ve done and understand where you’re headed.
It’s not easy but it’s necessary. In recent years, writing a novel has made me feel almost distant from music but that’s not the case. Books always have a silent soundtrack and sometimes more music in books than on records.”
The release of the album, available on CD, black vinyl and colored and signed vinyl exclusively for Amazon.it, is accompanied on the radio by the new single ‘Mediterraneo’. “In general – explained Ermal Meta – I tried to say things in a more direct way. When I met Mogol many years ago, he read one of my lyrics and then asked me what I wanted to say. He gave me the text back and told me to say it. It was a very intense lesson… lasting two minutes.”
Among the new songs, collaborations with Jake La Furia also appear for ‘Malepiù non fa’ (“He has an impressive writing ability. We seem distant but only in genres, not in intentions”) and Levante on the notes of ‘Io e te ‘ (“the song also needed another soul. I called her because she manages to be strong and light at the same time”).
“When I started making music – Meta recalled – it was to save myself. Music washed out my emotions. At twenty, all my childhood problems came out and I couldn’t keep my anger at bay. I went to therapy because I always ended up in bad situations. I had swallowed for too long. First with La Fame di Camilla and then when I started writing songs for others I could help my family with a little more money”.
On the cover of the album, which will also be the protagonist of a summer tour starting on July 13th from the Festival della Bellezza, at the Roman Theater in Verona, a white whale reminiscent of Melvillian, from which eleven white threads and one red one emerge. It is the latter that leads to the title ‘Good Fortune’, the ‘compass’ of the traveler Ermal.
“I have never held back because only a dream can defeat a dreamer. Music is the wind in my sails.”
