A new project from Italian tenor Eros Ramazzotti isn’t centered on a single song, but rather a comprehensive look back at his 40-year career in music. The endeavor, titled “Una Storia Importante,” reimagines past work – including previously unreleased tracks – through collaborations with a diverse roster of celebrated artists.
Ramazzotti explains the genesis of the album stemmed from a desire to tell a larger story. “It is aimed at my entire career, at my forty years in the music industry. This in itself represents an significant story,” he stated. “From this fact came the idea of returning to songs from the past…and recording them again in the form of duets with great artists and friends.”
A personal Confession with Alicia Keys
One of the most anticipated tracks on the album is “L’aurora,” featuring American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys. The song holds a notably intimate significance for Ramazzotti, originally penned as a heartfelt message to his daughter, Aurora Sophia, and first released in 1996 on the album Dove c’è musica.
“Yes, its a song about my first daughter, who made me a grandfather,” ramazzotti recalled. “There is a very strong, special emotion in it for me. Alicia Keys loved that song.” He emphasized the collaborative spirit of the recording process, stating, “So I let her do everything as she imagined and wanted.I just added some backing vocals, emotions and re-recorded my singing. It was natural and honest.”
Keys herself described the experience as creatively fulfilling. “We had a great time. We recorded a beautiful song that I learned in both Spanish and Italian,” she commented. “It’s really exciting to sing in a fully different language and discover the poetry and beauty of it. It’s amazing how it sounds and how you feel when it comes out of his mouth.”
A Studio Filled with Friends
The collaborations extend far beyond Keys. The album features a remarkable lineup of Italian and international talent, including Elisa, Giorgio, Andrea Bocelli, Ultimo, max Pezzali, and Jovanotti.Ramazzotti described the recording sessions as “basically a kind of studio party where Ramazzotti’s songs were sung.”
Notably, the featured artists were given agency in selecting the songs they wished to perform. “My guests chose the songs themselves. They are all my fans at the same time,” Ramazzotti explained. “Such as, Carín León, a very talented Mexican artist, chose a composition from the nineties, Un’altra te. Giorgia, on the other hand, Quanto amore sei. Everything happened very spontaneously and naturally.”
Prague Beckons
Looking ahead, Ramazzotti expressed his enthusiasm for an upcoming concert in prague. He conveyed a deep affection for the city, noting, “The Czech Republic, and Prague in particular, has a special energy. It is indeed elegant, full of history, and simultaneously occurring alive, modern and curious.” He added, “Every time I feel the great affection of the audience, which touches me very much
