Espai Ter de Torroella remembers Tete Montoliu with a great unpublished show

Coinciding with the ninetieth anniversary of the birth of Tete Montoliuthe Espai Ter in Torroella de Montgrí hosts this Saturday the premiere of Tot celebrant Tete & Big Band, a tribute concert to the best jazz musician that Catalonia has given.

Directed by Perico Sambeat, it is an unprecedented show, in big band format, with twenty performers who will offer a repertoire linked to Montoliuone of the key figures of European jazz.

Tot celebrant Tete & Big Band will have the participation of musicians who had a close bond with the artist. This is the case of double bass player Horacio Fumero, who together with drummer Peer Wyboris was the right hand of his stable trio during the last twenty years of his career; vocalist Laura Simó, who was the last voice he incorporated into his formations; pianist Ignasi Terraza, with whom he not only shared how to overcome the limitations of blindness but the keys to swing and blues through his instrument and drummer Esteve Pi, a faithful musician in Ignasi Terraza’s trio formation.

With the will to make the celebration complete, the proposal will count for this occasion with the special participation of the Girona Jazz Project and the direction of Perico Sambeat, another musician who had a very special bond with Tete Montoliu following his participation in the recording of the album Point, together with American trumpeter Wallace Roney.

Also a book

Before the concert, the lobby of Espai Ter will host the presentation of the book Round about Tete. A choral look at the life and work of Tete Montoliuby Pere Pons Macias from Bisbalen.

The publication offers a kaleidoscopic look at the character through experiences, opinions, articles, statements, letters and other documents around the artist’s life and work, coming from many of those who had the opportunity to meet him. Musicians, managers, programmers, producers, journalists, writers, filmmakers, singers or friends and family participate in the book, published by Llibres del Kultrum.

The edition is accompanied by the transcriptions of some of the compositions of his repertoire: standards, popular songs and compositions by other musicians.
