Tragic scene at the Pasteur clinic in Ris-Orangis (Essonne), this Wednesday, November 15. A woman reportedly died of illness while undergoing a scan. A police investigation was opened to understand the circumstances of the tragedy.
The events occurred around 1 p.m. Admitted to the clinic’s medical imaging unit, this 42-year-old woman was in the scanner room when, according to the first information brought to our attention, she suffered a heart attack. The firefighters and SMUR intervened to rescue her. Despite attempts at resuscitation, the victim was declared dead shortly after by the emergency doctor.
Autopsy this Thursday
A police investigation was immediately opened and entrusted to the urban security of the Évry-Courcouronnes police station. The forty-year-old would be the wife of a government minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo. An autopsy is scheduled for this Thursday, November 16 to confirm, or refute, the hypothesis of a heart attack during the examination.
Contacted this Thursday, the management of the Pasteur clinic referred us to the secretariat of the imaging center, which told us that there would be “no communication” regarding the tragedy of the day before.
A scanner provides the practitioner with cross-sectional images of a human body, in order to subsequently establish a diagnosis. It is particularly used in cases of suspected cancer. During the examination, the patient is placed horizontally under a machine which hovers over the body from top to bottom using X-rays (in very limited quantities). This process is different from MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), a technique which uses electromagnetic fields.
“Fatal discomfort in the middle of a scanner can happen, even if it is very rare,” notes this hospital radiologist. It is a minimally invasive test with only one real risk: an allergic reaction to the iodine injected into the patient. » In the case of Ris-Orangis, the doctor insists: “We must remain careful. Did the patient have any special history? Discomfort can occur anywhere, at any moment of our lives. »
