Ethereum Block Upgrade: Less than two days ago, the block overcame the glitches

by time news

The upgrade of the Ethereum block is expected to take place on Thursday morning Israel time. Difficulties that were present at the end of last week with the Bellatrix infrastructure update have been resolved, and for now no additional difficulties arise.

The calibration is intended to enable the transition of proof of consensus of the Proof-of-Work block to the Proof-of-Stake method which is more efficient and environmentally friendly.

After the deployment of the infrastructure update, reports of difficulties and failures in verifying new blocks began to appear on the network. what is the meaning? When new transactions enter a new block for approval, in order to turn those transactions into final and official transactions on the network, the block needs to be approved by a “validator” on the network (Validator), then it becomes part of the blockchain chain. Usually there are about half a percent failures in the verification process. After the deployment of the new update (Bellatrix) the verifiers failed to verify a relatively high rate of about 9% of the blocks presented to them for verification.

Today, problems with block verification have been resolved and returned to the normal level, and the upgrade of the block – that is, the merging of the old Proof-of-Work chain with the new Proof-of-Stake chain – should take effect and start from block number 15,537,351. If the rate of creating the blocks continues at its normal speed, the block that includes the update will go into effect on Thursday a little after 8:30 am Israel time.

About 85% of the block’s holidators have updated their working software to the version that should move to the upgraded network. The other 15% will likely split from the Ethereum block, in a split called a “hard fork”, and run their own parallel version of Ethereum that will continue to run on POW. This parallel version will be called Ethereum Proof-of-Work, or EthereumPoW (ETHW) for short.
