The first phase of 139 upazila parishad elections ended on May 8. Although BNP did not participate in this election, many leaders of the Trinamool of the party participated in the polls. Later they were expelled from the party.

In the first round of voting, the privately released results showed that 7 leaders expelled from BNP won the post of upazila chairman.

Among the expelled leaders of BNP, Abdul Quduch won the election in Bandarban Sadar Upazila. He got 19 thousand 144 votes.

Expelled BNP leader Aminul Islam Badsha has won the post of chairman in Sherpur’s Jhenaigati upazila. He was elected by getting 18 thousand 883 votes.

Bholahat Upazila of Chapainawabganj got 13 thousand 84 votes and former joint general secretary of Chapainawabganj district BNP Anwar Hossain was elected as chairman.

Ashraf Hossain Alim, former member of expelled upazila BNP, was elected chairman of Gomstapur upazila by getting 40 thousand 620 votes.

Mohammad Abdul Hamid, the expelled leader of BNP, was elected as the chairman after getting 34 thousand 185 votes in Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh.

Expelled vice-president and former chairman of district BNP Izadur Rahman Milan was elected chairman of Gazipur Sadar upazila by getting 18 thousand 969 votes.

In Sylhet’s Biswanath Upazila, the ex-chairman and former vice-president of the expelled district BNP, Mohammad Suhail Ahmad Chowdhury, a UK expatriate, was elected as the chairman after receiving 13 thousand 322 votes.

Incidentally, BNP expelled 82 people who participated in the first phase of the upazila parishad elections by disobeying the party decision. BNP has expelled a total of 145 people who participated in this 4-phase election so far.
