Astrobotic specialists reported that they have established communication with all instruments of the Peregrine lander. The device is still losing fuel due to a failure of the propulsion system, while continuing to move along a given trajectory around the Earth.
“Ten instruments that require energy are charged, another ten units of cargo remain passive. These instruments were able to prove their performance in space,” the development company reported on the X social network.
Peregrine was launched on January 7 by the American Vulcan launch vehicle. The lunar module separated from the launch vehicle as normal. After maneuvering the probe’s solar antennas, Peregrine’s batteries began to charge from the sun, but eight hours after launch a fuel leak occurred. A failure in the engine will not allow the device to make a soft landing on the Moon, the company noted.
