Explosion in Sundbyberg: Man Linked to Criminal Network in Custody for Aiding Murder

by time news

It was shortly after 02:00 that the police were alerted by several callers about a powerful detonation at the Sundbyberg apartment building. The explosion is said to have been heard over large parts of Stockholm.

A man with connections to the criminal network Foxtrot is listed at the address. Most recently, at the end of 2023, he was sentenced to prison for public destruction after an explosion the police linked to a conflict between the group and the Valley Network.

The man is currently in custody. He is charged on suspicion of aiding and abetting murder in a case concerning a mistaken shooting in Huvudsta in January last year. The hearing in this case will be concluded in the next few days.

No person has been found injured, the police say at 07:00 on Friday. However, the house and cars in the vicinity are said to have suffered extensive material damage.

– There is damage to the facade up to floor four and internal damage up to floors three and four. However, there is no structural damage so that the house is at risk of collapsing, says Christer Wahlström, line operator at Stockholm’s rescue center to DN.

The emergency services were able to leave the scene shortly after 04:00. The police are still at the scene at 07:00 and are conducting a technical investigation and obtaining information from witnesses by knocking on doors.

– Many people woke up to this explosion, says Anna Stålhuvud, police spokesperson.

The explosion must have occurred outside the house at the gate, where it is the facade that has suffered the most damage, according to the police.

– If the explosion had occurred inside the building, there would certainly have been more damage to property and also personal injuries, says Anna Stålhuvud.

Whether the incident has any connection to gang crime or not, the police do not want to go into detail at this time.

– It is something that we are investigating, says Anna Stålhuvud.

Emil Hansson lives on the top floor of the building where the explosion took place. He was not at home during the night and now has to wait to enter the residence.

– I just want to come home and sleep, but I’m glad I wasn’t at home, it would have been nasty, he says to DN.

According to him himself, it is usually very quiet in the area.

According to the police, it is too early to say what exactly has detonated.

– It is some highly explosive substance, but we still don’t know exactly what, says Anna Stålhuvud.

No one is currently in custody for the incident, which is classified as gross destruction of public danger.
