In the recently concluded month of March, the country earned 510 million 25 million US dollars by exporting products. In local currency (110 taka per dollar) which amounts to taka 56 thousand 128 crores. Exports in February this year were 518 million 75 million dollars. Export earnings have increased over the month.

This information was found in the statistics published by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) on Tuesday (April 2).

In the first 9 months (July-March) of the current fiscal year 2023-24, goods worth 4 thousand 355 million dollars have been exported. Which is 4.39 percent higher than the same period of last financial year. In the last financial year 2022-23, Bangladesh exported goods worth 5 thousand 556 million dollars. At that time the growth was 6.67 percent. In the current financial year 2023-24, the target of export earnings is 6 thousand 200 million dollars. Although there has been growth in export earnings in the last nine months, it is 5.86 percent behind the target.

A review of the EPB report showed that in the first 9 months of the current financial year, the exports of the country’s ready-made garments sector increased, but the exports of other major sectors. These include frozen food, jute and jute products, leather and leather products, home textiles, engineering products etc.

According to the information, in the first 9 months of the country’s manufactured garments, 3 thousand 720 million dollars worth of products were exported. Which is 5.53 percent more than the same period of last financial year. However, 4.62 percent less than the target. Exports of knitted garments increased by 9.79 percent and woolen garments by 47.0 percent during the period under review.

Apart from ready-made garments, exports have declined in the last 9 months in the products that top the list of exports. During the period under discussion, the export of jute and jute products decreased by 5.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous financial year. Exports of leather and leather products decreased by 13.65 percent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. Besides, exports of home textiles have decreased by about 26 percent. However, the export of agricultural products increased by 5.6 percent and the export of plastic products by 18.16 percent in the first 9 months of the current financial year.
