Montpellier, France – Researchers at the University of Montpellier are now accepting applications for the 2026 Doctoral Nexus program, an innovative initiative designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and accelerate research breakthroughs. The program, offered through the Institut ExposUM, provides fully-funded, four-year doctoral positions to promising candidates with a strong interest in tackling complex challenges through teamwork and transdisciplinary approaches.
The Doctoral Nexus program distinguishes itself from traditional PhD tracks by intentionally assembling research teams – “Nexuses” – comprised of three to four doctoral students from diverse disciplines and affiliated with at least two different research units within the university. This structure is intended to cultivate a collaborative environment where researchers can leverage a wider range of expertise and perspectives, leading to more comprehensive and impactful research outcomes. The program aims to equip future scientists with the skills needed to navigate increasingly complex research landscapes.

Beyond the collaborative research environment, Doctoral Nexus participants will benefit from a dedicated pedagogical program and the opportunity to organize a seminar within their Nexus network. The funding package covers the doctoral student’s salary for four years, as well as providing a research environment allowance to support their work. This comprehensive support structure aims to allow researchers to focus fully on their studies and contribute meaningfully to their fields.
Current Research Opportunities: KIDIHEALTH Nexus
Currently, one Doctoral Nexus project is actively seeking candidates: the KIDIHEALTH Nexus, focused on “Modulation of environmental and intrinsic determinants of physical frailty in chronic kidney insufficiency. A global health approach.” Within this Nexus, one specific research topic is open for applications: “Metabolic and cardiovascular responses to environmental variations (exercise and diet) on an animal model and in patients with renal insufficiency.” Detailed information about this specific project, including a full description of the research questions and methodology, can be found in the project document available here.

The deadline for submissions is May 24, 2026, at 6:00 PM Central European Time (CET). The application process requires a detailed dossier outlining the applicant’s research experience, academic qualifications and motivation for joining the Doctoral Nexus program.
The Institut ExposUM Doctoral Nexus program represents a significant investment in the next generation of researchers, fostering a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to tackling some of the most pressing scientific challenges.
