The Prime Minister, Dr Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla, granted, this Friday, August 18, 2023, an audience to the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina (FAIB). The umbrella organization of Islamic associations hailed the actions taken by the Government, in a difficult context marked by the fight against terrorism.

The courtesy visit made by the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina (FAIB) to the Prime Minister, Dr. Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla, enabled this umbrella organization, which brings together 360 associations, to address the national and sub-regional situation.
With regard to the national situation marked by the fight against terrorism, the Prime Minister explained to his hosts the range of measures taken by his Government, under the leadership of the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to the reconquest of our territory.
FAIB President of the Year, El Hadj Oumarou Zoungrana, hailed all the Government’s efforts in the fight against terrorism.
« We talked about the national situation. Our country is going through very difficult times, and it is important to support and motivate the Government. As Muslim leaders, we have come to congratulate the Prime Minister, encourage him and support him in his actions in the conduct of government action. In the days to come, we will organize prayer sessions in the mosques as we usually do so that peace returns to Burkina Faso. We implore Allah for peace to return to our country and the sub-region“, he expressed.
In the same vein, the FAIB President of the Year hailed the exercise of the evaluation of the contracts of objectives of the members of the Government, held on 11, 12 and 14 August, and which enabled the Head of Government to report on their implementation, in line with the strategic priorities of the Transition.
Another point at the center of the exchanges between the Prime Minister and the FAIB delegation was the question relating to the will of the Government to move to the fifth Republic, by adopting a new Constitution.
According to Dr Kyélèm de Tambèla, this is necessary because our current Constitution is out of step with our realities.
The support of the FAIB
« We need a Constitution that reflects our culture, customs and traditions. We cannot move forward with the current Constitution. Our people must take ownership of their history. We will go to the base and ask our people their expectations of the new Constitution. We are going to set up the Monitoring and Development Committees (COVED), before launching the process of popular consultations“, he explained.
On this subject, the FAIB has expressed its availability to support the Government. The two parties also discussed the situation prevailing in the sub-region, specifically in Niger.
For the Head of Government, Burkina Faso’s position is clear and unambiguous, because our country expresses its support for the new Nigerien authorities and its disapproval of any military intervention in this friendly country.
The FAIB, through the voice of its president of the year, El Hadj Oumarou Zoungrana, abounded in the same direction, rejecting the idea of a military intervention in Niger.
« War does not suit anyone. We pray that there is no war. War is not the solution, but dialogue. We believe that reason must prevail and that all parties must favor the path of dialogue“, he let know.
