Fair&Precious, the program launched by ATIBT with the support of the German (KFW) and French development agencies (Agence Française de Développement), and dedicated to promote sustainable management of tropical forestsis pleased to announce the incorporation of 3 new companies to its group, which now has 8 in total.

These companies are committed to promoting a virtuous model of forestry exploitation that respects resources and wildlife and contributes to the economic and social development of producing countries. The three new companies that join the Fair&Precious collective are:

Mil Madeiras in Brazil (management of 600,000 hectares of forest). Alpicam – Grumcam in Cameroon (management of 400,000 hectares of forest). Maderacre in Peru (management of 270,000 hectares of forest).

These companies join an already committed group that includes CIB Olam and IFO Interholco in the Republic of Congo, Precious Woods and Rougier in Gabon, and Pallisco CFIM in Cameroon. The arrival of these new companies further reinforces Fair&Precious’ presence in Africa and marks its first step in Latin America.

The ATIBT is set as target 9 million hectares of forest protected by the Fair&Precious collective. Fair&Precious only recognizes FSC and PEFC-PAFC certifications issued by independent auditors, which guarantee compliance with the strictest standards of sustainable forest management.

In total, more than 6.5 million hectares are now protected for biodiversity and people thanks to the 10 Fair&Precious commitments. ATIBT’s ambitious goal is to reach 9 million hectares in 5 years, an area the size of Portugal.

All companies or distributors in the wood sector, as well as all consumers, can support this crucial initiative by choosing only wood certified as subject to “sustainable forest management”.

The 10 Fair&Precious commitments are as follows:

Manage and protect forests to combat global warming. Preserve forest resources by harvesting less than natural growth. Develop knowledge of biodiversity to facilitate the repopulation of species. Ensure that wildlife maintains its living space. Apply anti-poaching programs. Contribute to the well-being of local populations by facilitating their access to education, health and housing. Stimulate the economies of producing countries by valuing forests and promoting local wood processing. Establish training courses in forestry and wood processing. Provide technical knowledge about the diversity of tropical species and their uses. Promote the responsible purchase of exceptional material.

Françoise Van de Ven, president of the ATIBT, states: “Fair&Precious is proud of its members’ ongoing commitment to the sustainable management of tropical forests and invites others to join this initiative to contribute to the protection of the environment and the well-being of local communities“.
